Robotics Education Senior Adviser
The VEX robotics V5 series European Open championship took place today in Riihimäki, Finland. The outstanding V5 competition had 14 teams coming from Türkiye, Czechia, Andorra, Germany, Luxembourg, and Finland. The competitors were mainly secondary school students.
The first place in the team challenge was won by Team The Rockys 2: Tobias Graf, Bartec Ciolek and Jolina Buhrmann and Team The Rockys 1: Sebastian Gasior, Jakob Bachmann and Dominik Gasior both from Germany.
The second place in the team challenge went to Team Melor: Leo Silen, Emmi Tuhkanen, Hilla Sokka ja Tuomas Toivola and Team Schnellarbeitsstahlwürfel: Roope Pihlajamäki, Taavi Vainionpää ja Niko Koskinen both from Finland.
The Judges’ Awards was awarded to Team Pendulum: Kimi Sarkkinen, Juuso Patja, Arvi Malinen and Benjamin Baldschun from Finland and Team R.U.R.: Adrien Stojcev, Vojtech Gryga, Jonas Worm, Alexandr Steiger, Lukas Drochytek, Pavel Pisl, Ondrej Michalek and Matyas Kucera from Czechia. This award is given to a team that deserves special recognition. The team is resilient and strives after their achievements.
The Energy Award was awarded to Team CyberKnights: Souhaib Moudhich, Sergio Martins Soares, Filipe De Sousa Pinto, Vincente Da Silva Varela, Farzad Mirzai an Refik Hamzaj from Luxembourg. This award is given to an enthusiastic team with a passion for robotics. Their teamwork is great, and their enthusiasm also spreads to other competitors.
The Sportsmanship Award was awarded toTeam Vortex Robotics: Yusuf Çağan Ceylan, Asya Altun, Batuhan Kusderci, Demir Bülbüloğlu, Cantuğ Mete Yaya, Yiğit Çalişkan ja Ömer Zikreddin Babat from Türkiye. This award is given to a team that is fair, cheers others on, and takes everyone into account, creating a great feeling around them. The team is courteous and helpful towards everyone.
The Robotics European Open competition which kicked off on Tuesday will continue on Thursday and Friday with the IQ series team competitions.
The international competition brings together over 200 VEX robotics competitors to Riihimäki during the course of the week. The European Open competition is held in Riihimäki, at the Sakonkatu premises of Hyria Education.

The competition is organised by the City of Riihimäki’s Robotics Campus in collaboration with Hyria Education. The competition is supported by OP Häme, the Union of Professional Engineers, Riihimäen Kaukolämpö, and Aaltoes (Aalto Entrepreneurship Society).
